PICNIC in the Park which was due to take place in Oundle on Saturday has been cancelled.
Oundle Music Trust, which organises the event as part of the Oundle International Festival, decided to cancel the picnic today (Monday) because the site is too waterlogged to withstand heavy lorries and the number of cars expected.
In a statement, the trust said: “With further rain forecast for the rest of this week, there is sadly no way that the ground could dry out in time.
“Our overriding concern is for the health and safety and enjoyment of our patrons and with that in mind we have had to make the extremely disappointing decision to cancel the event.”
People who have bought tickets will be refunded from Thursday onwards and are advised to check www.oundlefestival.org.uk for details of how to claim.
Oundle International Festival runs until Sunday, July 22, and there are also details online of other events.
The statement said: “It’s hard to express our extreme disappointment at having had to take this decision after so many months of planning and hard work.
“The news has serious implications for the organisation as a whole so we would be extremely grateful if you could support us in making the rest of the 2012 Oundle International Festival a success by ensuring that we have sell-out performances for the rest of our events.
“With concerts of classical, folk, world and jazz music, the festival offers 10 vibrant days of music for all tastes.”
