A YOUNG woman cycled twice around Rutland Water to raise money for a trip to Nigeria.

Pippa Adams, 18, of Halfleet, Market Deeping, is going to Nigeria with Global Xchange, a branch of the voluntary organisation VSO, for 12 weeks on Monday, April 16.

As part of her trip, she has committed to raising £2,000 for the charity and has so far, raised £1,000. Many of her friends and relatives also sponsored her efforts on Tuesday morning to cycle twice around Rutland Water, a total of 46 miles.

Former Bourne Grammar School pupil Pippa took on the challenging ride with her mother Lorna.

Pippa said: “It was really hard work, particularly as on the second lap when we got to about 30 miles, it started raining. We got absolutely soaked.”

Pippa, who is on a gap year before she will be studying bio-medical science at Newcastle University, will be working with young children during her trip to Nigeria, along with nine others from the UK who are all aged between 18 and 22.
