A HOUSING association is planning to demolish one of its sheltered housing complexes.

Spire Homes wants to knock down Samuel Court in Branston Road, Uppingham, and replace it with two or three-bedroom homes.

The decision was made about a year ago after Spire Homes completed a housing needs survey and discovered that there are too many homes for the elderly and not enough homes for families in the town.

The housing association began moving Samuel Court residents and at present there is only one resident still there, who requested to move after Christmas.

Spire Homes spokesman Carol Underwood said: “We have worked closely with Rutland County Council and Uppingham Town Council on our plans for Samuel Court and they have both been very supportive of our plan to provide more family accommodation.”
