A PLAQUE has been made to mark the 550th anniversary of the charter of Stamford’s independence.
Coun David Nalson donated the silver plaque to the council at a meeting at the Town Hall on Tuesday.
He said: “This charter, which was presented on February 12, 1462, marks a very important part of Stamford’s history, which is well worth remembering.”
Accepting the plaque, mayor of Stamford John Binder said: “It is a very generous gift and I am sure the town council will appreciate and treasure it.
“It is an honour to be mayor of Stamford in any year but especially so in the 550th year of the charter.”
