Police investigating after arson at Castle Bytham

AN ELDERLY couple are being treated in hospital after an arson attack at their home.

Police are investigating the fire at a cottage in High Street, Castle Bytham, after firefighters have confirmed it was an arson attack.

An 82-year-old man and a 74-year-old woman suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to Peterborough City Hospital. Their injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The two storey cottage was severely damaged by fire, heat, smoke and water.

Five crews of firefighters were called at 2.55am.

Firefighters have shored up ground floor timbers at the house.

Crews from Stamford, Bourne, Corby Glen and Grantham were called. They remained on site until about 8am
