Amusing village signs can be returned to Whitwell

Have your say

A COUNCIL has said that road signs could be returned to a village if residents wanted them to be.

The signs “Twinned with Paris” were removed from Whitwell when larger speed limit signs were installed last month.

A spokesman for Rutland County Council, which took the signs, said: “The ‘Please drive carefully through our village’ and ‘Twinned with Paris’ signs were both removed at the request of the parish, but can easily be added back if local residents feel strongly about them.”

The amusing twinning signs were put up about 20 years ago as a joke after the parish meeting in Whitwell wrote to officials in Paris about starting a twinning charter and were ignored.
