Councillors delay decision on Morrisons retail park plan for Stamford

COUNCILLORS have delayed making a decision on a retail park in Stamford.

South Kesteven District Council’s development control committee met on Tuesday to discuss plans to develop six shops on the former Mirlees Blackstone factory in Uffington Road, next to Morrisons supermarket.

Planning officers had recommended the plans be approved but councillors deferred a decision until the next meeting on September 18 to consider issues raised by objectors.

Businesses have objected, saying the complex would hit trade in the town centre.

Morrisons first submitted an application for the retail park in 2006, which was approved two years later. But the permission was quashed by a High Court judge in 2009, after Stamford Chamber of Trade and Commerce and FH Gilman and Co said it would hit town centre trade.

There are also plans to put a pub-restaurant on the same site but a date has yet to be set for councillors to discuss it.
