THE annual reception was held at RAF Wittering on Friday two weeks ago.

Dignitaries including the mayors of Stamford, Peterborough and Oakham, councillors, high sheriffs and MPs, and Mercury editor Eileen Green were invited to the reception, which was hosted by the station commander Group Capt Richard Hill.

Base spokesman Tony Walsh said the reception was an opportunity to thank everyone who supported the base’s work over the year.

He said: “We all thought it went absolutely brilliantly and the weather held out well. There was even a rainbow as everyone watched the Spitfire flypast.

“We were delighted to see so many people there.”
