A council has again reminded dog owners of their responsibilities after installing a number of new anti-fouling signs.

South Kesteven District Council recently put up signs in locations including Tattershall Drive in Market Deeping, and Elsea Park and the surrounding area in Bourne, advising dog owners that fines can apply to those who flout the rules.

Signs have also gone up in Grantham. These are the latest in a series of signs to have been put up across the district in an ongoing review of health and safety.

The council’s environmental health team is listening to and working with residents to identify areas where dog fouling incidents regularly occur.

Teams installing the signs are also educating and reminding owners to pick up after their pets or face a £75 on-the-spot fine.

Executive manager for environment Ian Yates said: “Dog owners are responding to the volume of signs we are placing across the district, as part of our wider education initiative to inform them of their responsibilities of picking up after their pets in public places.

“Our environmental health team appreciate dog owners and residents being our eyes and ears in submitting their own reports to us on areas that require further monitoring.

“We all want the district to be a cleaner and greener place so owners need to do their part and remember dog waste can be left in public litter bins as long as it is bagged.”
