Residents have been asked whether they want an election to fill three town council seats.
Oakham Town Council currently has three vacant seats, in the north east, north west and south east wards.
The vacancies were advertised on Thursday last week and at least 10 voters from each ward must now request an election in writing by June 13 for one to be held.
If fewer than 10 voters in each ward request an election, councillors will instead be co-opted by existing members.
The north west and south east wards have been vacant since the 2011 elections when only six people stood for the council.
Chris Hopkin was co-opted that year but stood down from the north east ward in 2012.
To call for an election in your ward write to the Returning Officer at Catmose, Oakham, Rutland, LE15 6HP.
If requested, elections will be held no later than August 16.
