Funeral to be held for Capt Rupert Bowers who died in Afghanistan blast

THE funeral of a soldier killed in Afghanistan last month will take place tomorrow.

Captain Rupert Bowers, 25, from Langham, was killed by a blast from an improvised explosive device on March 21.

He was serving in Afghanistan with 2nd Battalion, The Mercian Regiment and was attached to 2nd Battalion, The Rifles, operating as an advisor to the Afghan National Army.

Cpt Bowers’ funeral will be held at St Bartholomew’s Church, Moreton Corbet, near Market Drayton, tomorrow from 11am.

He was born and raised in Wolverhampton and studied at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. He had only recently moved to Rutland.

He leaves behind his wife Victoria, his newly-born son Hugo, parents Patrick and Jane and sister Juliet.
