COMMUNITY groups are working together to come up with a plan to shape development in Uppingham and people are being urged to have their say on the area it will cover.
Uppingham Town Council is working in partnership with Uppingham First, Uppingham Town Partnership, Uppingham Neighbourhood Forum, residents’ associations and Rutland County Council to put together the Uppingham Town Neighbourhood Plan.
When the plan is completed it will set out the views of the community on establishing planning policies for development and use of land, locations where new homes, shops and offices should be built and the appearance and design of any new buildings.
Uppingham qualified as a front-runner area for the Government-backed scheme and was given £20,000 to put it together.
Once the plan is drawn up, a local referendum will take place and if 50 per cent of voters approve the plan’s contents, the county council must consider it when making decisions.
The first step is to agree the area the plan will cover and Uppingham Town Council has outlined an area that takes in the whole parish of Uppingham and a small area of land south of the A47 in Ayston Parish.
To see the area proposed visit www.rutland.gov.uk/neighbourhoodplans and to make a comment on the area proposed write to the Planning Policy Team at Rutland County Council (Catmose, Oakham, Rutland. LE15 6HP) or e-mail email@example.com before Monday, November 5.
After the consultation has closed, the groups will consider all the responses received before agreeing the final area the plan will cover.
