Britain’s decision to leave the European Union ‘sends a clear message from the people that put the money in’ said the leader of South Kesteven District Council this morning.

A supporter of the Vote Leave campaign, Councillor Bob Adams (Conservative) is pleased with the result and went on to say he does not believe that leaving the EU will have a significant impact on the town and its businesses.

“I don’t think it will have a great impact locally in terms of business,” he said. “We are very much a food area and if you look at the result in farming areas, they voted very strongly to leave Europe.

“There might be an initial impact but I’m certain that long-term, Europe will want to deal with this country and local businesses.”

Confident that Britain is a force to be reckoned with, Coun Adams said he believes ‘this country has fought two world wars and it has come out on top’ and it will do the same again.

He added: “I think [leaving the EU] is a good result for Great Britain. There’s a lot of hard work to be done with our partners and neighbours but, overall, I think it will send a clear message to the EU that the time has come for them to be accountable to the people that put the money in.”

He added: “I think the electorate has been extremely brave. When the chips are rarely down, British people respond in the right way.

“The long-term future for our future generations is better now.”
