Plans for 11 new homes to be built on the site of a former bungalow in Oakham have been refused.
A planning application for 10 two storey units and a first floor flat to be built in Braunston Road was submitted to Rutland County Council.
But at a development control and licensing committee meeting on Tuesday last week councillors went against recommendation from planning officers and decided to refuse permission.
The plans include five two-bedroom and five three-bedroom houses, and a one-bedroom flat, as well as a 22-space car park and small gardens for each property.
However, councillors have refused the development due to a lack of access for emergency services, a lack of discrete storage for waste bins and innappropriate designs.
The council also received objections from Oakham Town Council and neighbouring residents, who stated that the properties will be out of character.
