Developer to hold exhibition on first phase of homes plan

A public exhibition will be held on Wednesday on plans to build 70 homes as part of the first phase of a huge housing development in Stamford.

Housing developer Taylor Wimpey is preparing a planning application for the first phase of 70 houses at Exeter Fields, which is on land between Empingham Road and Tinwell Road, with a view to submitting it in the summer.

The development, previously known as Stamford West, received outline planning permission from South Kesteven District Council in May last year.

Taylor Wimpey was then selected by landowners, the Cecil Estate Family Trust, to build the houses at Exeter Fields, which will eventually comprise 400 new homes, of which 35 per cent will be affordable properties; a business park; a neighbourhood centre; community facilities and public open spaces.

The full proposals will be displayed during a public exhibition at Stamford Arts Centre on Wednesday, which runs between 2pm and 8pm.

Design and planning manager for Taylor Wimpey East Midlands Kevin Pearson said: “Outline planning permission already exists for Exeter Fields, which includes a detailed masterplan and other guidance on the layout of the scheme, and our proposed site plan closely follows this.

“However, the design of homes is something which has not yet been finalised, and which people can still influence.

“By attending our exhibition, local people will have the opportunity to examine our early designs for the first phase of 70 homes at Exeter Fields, and let us know what they think.

“Members of the project team will also be on hand to answer any general queries people may have about the residential element of this high-quality, sustainable mixed-use development.”

Mr Pearson said the site had been identified by the district council as a suitable site to deliver new housing and jobs to sustain Stamford’s economy.

Under the proposals, Taylor Wimpey would provide a mix of housing types to suit a range of purchasers, with 35 per cent of the homes being affordable properties available for rent, or as shared ownership housing.

The local centre, the business park and community facilities will be delivered by other organisations.

Prior to outline planning permission being granted, Commercial Estates Group - which submitted the application - faced strong opposition from the South West Approaches Protection Group, which was formed to protest against developments in that area, and Stamford Chamber of Trade and Commerce. Both organisations stated that building on the east of the town was more suitable.
