Councillors have introduced special Christmas ticket offers to encourage people to use public transport.

Two-for-one fares will be available on selected Rutland County Council Work Link services Monday to Saturday throughout December. Single tickets cost £2.

Portfolio holder for transport Martyn Pocock (Con) said: “What better way to enjoy your festive celebrations than to leave the car at home, safe in the knowledge you can catch the bus home at the end of your evening.

“The two-for-one ticket offer, running on late-night bus services throughout December, means a couple can travel for just £4 return. It will hopefully attract people into Oakham as well as providing local residents with an option if they want to spend an evening in neighbouring towns.”

The discount fares will apply on the 6.05pm Oakham to Melton service (Saturdays only), 9.10pm Melton to Oakham, 10.05pm Oakham to Melton, 6.15pm Oakham to Stamford (Saturdays only), 9.05pm Stamford to Oakham and 10.15pm Oakham to Stamford.

The Oakham Hopper will also offer free travel after 6pm on Monday to coincide with late-night Christmas shopping.
