The new mayors of Oakham and Uppingham were elected at town council meetings this week.

Councillor Jayne Woodcock takes over from Coun Adam Lowe as Oakham mayor, with Coun Alf Dewis as her deputy, while in Uppingham Coun Dave Ainslie was sworn in as mayor, taking the reins from Coun David Casewell. Coun Alec Crombie will be Coun Ainslie’s deputy.

Coun Woodcock said: “It’s fantastic to be the new mayor of Oakham and I was delighted when I got voted in. It’s an opportunity I couldn’t miss to represent my town.

“It’s a changing town and I will make sure that Oakham Town Council is at the forefront of all decisions made for the town.”

Uppingham mayor Coun Ainslie said: “To be voted as mayor by fellow councillors is an absolute honour. It’s an important time for the town and a big responsibility but one I am relishing.”
