Councillors have defied the advice of their officers and rejected plans for a housing estate on greenfield land.
South Kesteven District Council’s development control committee voted to refuse Kier Homes’ application to build 48 homes on land off Kettering Road, Stamford, at a meeting yesterday (Tuesday).
Council planning officers had advised councillors to approve the plans. But after a number of residents spoke out opposing the development, councillors voted to refuse planning permission.
A protest group called Stamford! Protect Our Green Space was set up to fight the plans and hundreds of people signed two petitions opposing the development.
