Stamford residents protest plans to sell green spaces in the Scottish estate.

Stamford residents protest plans to sell green spaces in the Scottish estate.

Residents of a housing estate will travel to Leicester to protest against plans to auction off green spaces near their homes.

Jelson Homes wants to sell 17 plots on the 350-home Scottish estate in Stamford. The plots, ranging from 779 sq metres to 3,207 sq metres, will be auctioned at Leicester Racecourse on Wednesday and a group of residents plan to hold a protest outside the sale.

More than 400 people have signed a petition calling on the green spaces to be retained for the community. Residents hope the protest will make potential bidders aware of the strength of feeling in the community.

Anyone wishing to join the protest can get full details at the Stamford Open Spaces Facebook page. To sign the petition visit http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/stop-jelson-homes-selling-stamfords-green-spaces.html.
