An MP has given his backing to a £150,000 project to build a new skatepark.

South Kesteven District Council has approved plans to build a new concrete bowl skatepark on the Recreation Ground in Stamford.

After the decision Stamford MP and Planning Minister Nick Boles met members of the Stamford Skatepark Committee, which raised the money for the new park, to discuss the project.

Speaking after the meeting, Mr Boles said: “Now the application is approved I am completely delighted. It is a fantastic scheme.

“ This is an absolutely appropriate use for the Recreation Ground. It is exactly the right place and it is incredibly important that Stamford also worries about younger people.”

Mr Boles added that he could roller blade reasonably well, but was not sure his skills would translate to the new skatepark when it is built.
