Polls have opened in a by-election to fill a vacant seat on Stamford Town Council.

The council is missing one member after former mayor Clem Walden handed in his resignation, and an election is being held today (September 24). Polls opened at 7am and will close at 10pm.

Six candidates are fighting for the seat in St John’s Ward. They are: Pamela Bisnauthsing (Real Independent); Aidan Campbell (Green); Robert Foulkes (Ukip); Emma Hunter (Lib Dem); Brenda Sumner (Con); and Alan Swan (Stamford Group of Independents).

Malcolm Sargent Primary School and the Danish Invader will act as polling stations.

The council currently has 21 seats spanning five wards. Members meet monthly as a full council and also as smaller committees covering planning, amenities, events, strategic development, scrutiny and audit, and finance, personnel and assets. Visit www.stamfordtowncouncil.gov.uk.
