Prisons minister Andrew Selous visited Oakham Enterprise Park today (Wednesday).
The business park on the site of the former Ashwell Prison was purchased from the Ministry of Justice by Rutland County Council in December 2012.
The purpose of the visit was to look at how the site has been developed over the past two years and see how other local authorities might learn from the project in future.
The business park has 70 fully refurbished office and industrial units and the council expects 18 more office suites to open by the end of the month
The site also includes a community sport centre which is due to open later this year and an adult learning centre.
Mr Selous, MP for South West Bedfordshire, said: “The Enterprise Park is an excellent example of how a former public building can be used to provide jobs and opportunities for the local community.”
