A Royal British Legion standard bearer is getting ready to hoist the flag of his branch at a national ceremony.

Thomas Brand, 28, of Allen Close, Deeping St James, is one of a select few standard bearers invited to take part in the Festival of Remembrance at London’s Royal Albert Hall tomorrow.

He will be one of the first people to be seen in the ceremony as he marches across the hall.

Thomas, a former royal engineer, joined the Langtoft, the Deepings and Districts branch of the legion just a year ago.

He said: “It’s going to be a very proud moment. I am a bit nervous and there are emotions running about.

“I managed to get a ticket for my mum and my partner so they are both going to be there.

“It’s something my grandfather would have been extremely proud of, as he served his country during the Second World War.”
