UPDATE: Weather hampers final flight of Harriers

UPDATE: Harriers have landed back at RAF Cottesmore after making their final official flight.

The flight was due to take place at lunchtime today but the 16 jets eventually took off at 2pm from the base.

They flew over Oakham and Cottesmore but returned to the base at 2.30pm because of the poor weather conditions and low cloud.

This meant their route was cut short and the planned flypast in Stamford did not take place, leaving hundreds of disappointed spectators in Red Lion Square and on The Meadows.

The Mercury is waiting for more details from RAF Cottesmore.
