Power cut affects 1,500 houses in Oakham on Saturday

MORE than 1,500 homes and businesses were affected by a power cut on Saturday.

The power cut affected 1,524 customers in Station Road and Finkey Street in Oakham. The electricity went off at about 12.15pm and was caused by a fault with a high voltage underground cable.

Power was restored to 900 customers within five minutes and the remaining homes had their electricity back on by 1.20pm.

A spokesman for Western Power Distribution apologised for the inconvenience.
