Prison housing block approved

A NEW housing block at a prison was approved by members of Rutland County Council’s development control and licensing committee at a meeting on Tuesday.

The application was for a three-storey housing block at HMP Stocken with associated works and the extension of the existing prison car park by 25 spaces.

The number of prisoners that the block will be able to house and the reasons for building the new block have been censored online by the Ministry of Justice and are not known.

The plans were approved two weeks after the council received an application from the Ministry of Justice to temporarily change the conditions of an application for two new cell blocks that have recently been built at the site so that the prison can accommodate 214 more prisoners.
