PUPILS were left counting their medals after excelling in a national maths competition.

Three boys from English Martyrs Primary School, in Oakham, achieved success in the final of the National Primary Mathematics Challenge.

Year 6 pupil Jamie Robertson achieved the gold, and Year 5 pupils Thomas Nguyen and Lewis Tranmer got the silver and bronze respectively for their outstanding numeracy skills.

More than 86,000 pupils take part in the challenge which tests numeracy with problem solving equations.

Teacher Alison Chambers said: “They were fantastic. They love their maths and are all a credit to the school.”
