YOUNGSTERS will be celebrating the area’s distinctive character during civic day celebrations.

Stamford Civic Society has worked with schools to put on events to celebrate the first Civic Day, on Saturday, June 25.

Stamford Endowed Schools and Stamford Queen Eleanor School will take part in a civic debate in Stamford Town Hall on Tuesday from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.

The debate will be chaired by civic society chairman Gwyneth Gibbs with a panel including mayor John Binder and Mercury editor Eileen Green. An invited audience will take part in the debate.

Children at Malcolm Sargent Primary School have devised a quiz to test people’s knowledge of the area.

The quiz, which has a £50 prize, will be published in the Mercury and on the society’s website on Friday, June 24.
