A RUTLAND explorer touched base this week when she spoke on the phone from Kazakhstan to primary school pupils in Rutland.

Sarah Outen, 26, from Ashwell is almost three months into her adventure London2London: Via the World and spoke to pupils from St Nicholas Primary School in Cottesmore on Tuesday.

Headteacher Barbara Crellin said: “As the phone rang the hall fell silent in anticipation.

“The children posed a range of questions from what is the climate and environment like, through how are you getting on with different languages, cultures and foods, to if she is ever frightened and finally how many chocolate bars she has eaten. As always Sarah was interesting and informative with her answers and the children learned such a lot.”

Sarah is travelling around the world using manpower alone and will arrive back in the UK in autumn 2013.
