Great British Bake-off contestant Deborah Manger showed pupils how to bake scones and make blackberry jam.

During a visit to Casterton Business and Enterprise College’s Food Technology Department the dentist from near Oundle, who was one of 13 amateur bakers in the popular BBC Two show, also gave students tips on how to avoid common baking pitfalls.

Casterton pupils have been taking part in an adapted version of The Great British Bake-off’. Each week they bake a product and a judge chooses a Baker of the Week.

Year 11 pupil Luke Jelley said: “I really enjoyed the afternoon and it was interesting to find out what it was like to be on The Great British Bake-off.”

Pupils were also able to ask questions and sample Deborah’s scones and jam.
