The festive season is on its way to Stamford and the town’s Christmas tree is firmly in place in Red Lion Square.

The engineering team from RAF Wittering 5001 Squadron were on hand to transport and put the tree up in front of crowds of people on Monday morning.

The tree had been harvesting in the grounds of Burghley Park. It was picked by Stamford town councillor Maxine Couch.

She said: “It was just majestic and beautiful.

“There were 13 or 14 to pick from but this one just said ‘pick me’.

“I cannot wait for it to be lit up and decorated.”

The lights are set to go on during Stamford’s Christmas Festival on December 1, when celebrations will be held.
