Aspiring young chefs impressed members of Rutland Rotary Club with their “restaurant-standard” food at the Young Chef of the Year Competition.
Contestants were given two hours to prepare and cook a healthy two course meal using as many local and seasonal ingredients as possible, for under £10.
Pupils from Catmose College and Casterton Business and Enterprise College, in Rutland slaved over several hot stoves to produce impressive main courses and deserts.
Judges Colin Bremner and Andrew Nelson had the task of tasting seven two course meals. Mr Nelson said: “Year on year the standards just get higher and higher. We are so impressed.
“This truly was restaurant-class food and all the entrants should be rightly proud of their achievements, as should their teachers.”
Catmose College’s James Carter was winner with Alicia Bailey and Ellie Loxton of Casterton College runners up.
The winner will represent Rutland in a regional heat.
