A FORMER Stamford School pupil who is currently travelling the world using manpower alone has been joined by her mum to celebrate one year on the road.
Sarah Outen, 26, from Oakham, paddled her kayak down the River Thames and out onto the ocean heading for France on April 1 last year and has not looked back.
The explorer is raising money for WaterAid, Coppafeel, the Jubilee Sailing Trust and the Motor Neurone Disease Association.
Over the last year she has kayaked to France, cycled across Europe and Asia and kayaked to Japan where she is currently staying for the winter.
In little under one month she will set out on the next leg of her epic journey and will row across the Pacific Ocean to North America.
From there she will cycle across the continent and then row across the Atlantic before kayaking her way along the coast of the UK and arriving back in London in autumn next year.
Sarah has announced via Twitter that she is celebrating her one year on the road with her mum, Helen Outen, who has flown out to Japan to visit her.
