A primary school is ready to enter a new era and make improvements following the announcement of a new executive board.

After consultation with parents, governors and the diocese, and approval from Michael Gove, the Secretary of State for Education, Ryhall Primary School has replaced its governing body with an interim executive board, which is ready to lead the school.

The action was taken after parents called for change following an Ofsted report in April which labelled the school as “inadequate”.

The board is made up of three members: Chairman Michael Kee, who is an experienced headteacher and specialises in educational issues; former Rutland and Stamford Mercury editor Tor Clark, who was a governor at Oakham CE Primary School for seven years and is a journalism lecturer at De Montfort University in Leicester and Neil Spencelayh, a headteacher of Witham St Hugh’s Academy, near Lincoln.

Mr Kee said: “We are delighted to be invited to lead Ryhall Primary School into a new era.

“We are committed to ensuring significant improvements are made to the education outcomes of our children.”

Mr Clark said: “It’s a real positive move for the school.

“The staff are very happy with the change and we can now push forward and become a very good school again.”

Ryhall Primary School received a damning Ofsted inspection report in April
which heavily criticised both senior management and governors.

Parents believed the only solution was to replace the board of governors.

Headteacher Sue Hallam left the school in June. The school is now being lead by acting headteacher Ian Toon, who was the former deputy.

Parents have been told they will be informed of progress at the school with regular newsletters.

The interim executive board is now looking for a parent of the school to join it.
