A GROUP of roller girls are trading their skates for cycles to raise money for charity.

Emma Grove, Karen Ticehurst and Nicky Baynton, all from Stamford, will join fellow Mean Valley Roller Girl Michelle Ginieres from Peterborough to cycle from 54 miles from London to Brighton on June 17 in aid of the British Heart Foundation.

The team have been cycling around Rutland Water, Stamford and the surrounding villages in preparation for the event. They are aiming to raise £500 and awareness for the charity.

Emma said: “My Dad died at 54 from heart disease and if only we could raise more money to fund the research into catching these things earlier we could save more people from dying so young.

“I’m cycling 54 miles in his memory; one mile for every year he was alive.”
