A WOMAN will be hoping to encourage more people to read by handing out books to shoppers next month.

Petula Collier, known as Spike, will be handing out 48 copies of The Spy who came in from the Cold to shoppers in Stamford on the morning of Friday, March 4.

She will be doing this to promote World Book Night, which is being held on Saturday, March 5.

The organisers of World Book Night had offered a million books to passionate readers across the country to hand out to others.

Spike, of Angus Close, Stamford, was among hundreds of people to apply for the books on the website.

She said: “I read a lot myself.

“I am going to be walking up and down to try and encourage people to take one.

“If they pass it onto someone else all the better.”

The books are being delivered to Walkers Books, in High Street, Stamford.
