Active Rutland’s annual Community Sports Awards have taken place recognising the achievements of sportsmen and women from across the county.

Now in their third year, the awards celebrate local sports people, clubs, volunteers and initiatives for their accomplishments and overall contribution to community sport during the past 12 months.

Organisers received a record number of nominations for this year’s awards but eventually produced a shortlist of 45 individuals and 11 clubs across 14 categories.

Coun Terry King (Con),deputy leader of Rutland County Council, said: “Sport is the lifeblood of the community for many people in Rutland, with Sport England highlighting our county as one the most active in the UK.

“These Community Sports Awards recognise and reward the achievements of the very best in the sporting sector, along with the unsung heroes who work behind the scenes for local sporting clubs and teams.

“Congratulations to every single one of the winners, who thoroughly deserve their awards.”

The event sponsor was Lafarge Tarmac and the firm’s maintenance business director Rick Green said it was great to be part of the community event.
