Stamford runners inspired to tackle coast to coast challenge by brave gran’s cancer fight

RUNNERS will be hoping to raise money for two good causes by completing a coast to coast run.

Stamford Striders members Kate Nottidge and Briony James will be running 140 miles over five days.

Kate, 27, of Queen’s Walk, Stamford, and Briony, of Lale Walk, Wittering, will be running an average of 27 miles a day as they make their way from White Haven to Sunderland.

The pair will be raising money for the pregnancy advisory service Alternatives, and Cancer Research UK during the challenge, takes place between September 11 and 16.

The two women were inspired to raise money for these charities by Briony’s grandmother Marjorie Cunningham’s fight against cancer. She is in remission. Kate also volunteers for Alternatives.

Kate, a senior family worker for young parents at a children centre in Huntingdon, has been training with mechanical engineer Briony since Christmas.

Kate said: “Training is going well. We are doing long runs at weekends.”

The pair have so far raised more than £600 for the charities but are hoping for more. To sponsor them go to: www. j u s t g i v i n g . c o m / W e s t - E a s t - Alternatives-Stamford
