THE ancient tradition of wassailing is coming to Stamford.
The Stamford Community Orchard Group is bringing the practice to the town for the first time on Saturday next week.
The ritual was used in Anglo-Saxon times to awaken apple trees and encourage them to fruit well. Wassailers sing, chant and beat drums and pots to drive away evil spirits.
The wassailing will be held at the community orchard in Christ Church Close.
