A SUPERMARKET undergoing a massive revamp will shut to the public for a week while building work is completed.
Sainsbury’s, in Exeter Street, Bourne, will close its doors on Tuesday from 5pm until it reopens with a new look and extension on Wednesday, February 16, at 9am.
Store manager Paul Bryan thanked all of the supermarket’s customers and neighbours for their patience while the improvement works have been taking place and ahead of the closure in order for the final works to be carried out quickly and safely.
He said: “When it reopens the store will be a great place to shop and I am sure our customers will love it.”
When the store re-opens customers can look forward to a wider range of goods on sale, including more clothing and electrical items, as well as a resurfaced car park. There will also be meat, fish and deli counters, a new bakery, hot food counter and a pizza bar.
Mr Bryan said the store would have new check-outs too.
The refurbishment has meant 20 more jobs have been created in the town.
Mr Bryan said he has taken on new members of staff in the area.
He said: “It is great news for the town and we hope it will help keep the town centre alive.”
The existing shop front facilities, such as the customer café, toilets and cash machine will be refurbished and rebranded too.
The extension will also include a new first floor to the north-east corner of the store to relocate the domestic area and allow for the extension of the sale area internally, a single-storey bulk stock extension into the service yard area and alterations to the existing car park to maximise capacity and to resolve existing traffic problems.
The alterations will result in an overall increase of 15 parking spaces within the existing car park including three additional disabled spaces and the provision of 15 bicycle parking hoops at the front of the shop, in order to encourage the use of sustainable methods of transport.
The store received approval for its plans from South Kesteven District Council in July last year.
Planning officers had recommended the store’s planning application for approval prior to the district council’s development control committee meeting.
A brand new supermarket will open in Bourne shortly after Sainsbury’s unveils its new-look store.
Tesco will open up for the very first time in South Road at 8am on Monday, February 21.
