A SOCIETY has handed out awards for work carried out in the town.

Stamford Civic Society hands out awards every two years to recognise work that goes on in the town and a presentation evening for this year’s awards was held on October 13.

Painter David Collins was recognised for his work keeping the buildings in Stamford in a pristine condition, while Ron Jones and Michael Lee, who are trustees of the Corn Exchange Theatre in Broad Street, Stamford, accepted an award for the restoration to the front window at the theatre.

The sympathetic restoration at Hambleton Bakery in Ironmonger Street was rewarded with Tim Hart, owner of the bakery, attending to receive the award.

Martin Bust was given an award for creating an attractive verge garden in Church Lane and a special award was given to Peter Stevens from the society for his hard work.

Society chairman Gwyneth Gibbs congratulated the winners.
