YOUNG people are being urged to get involved with a huge festival being planned for them.
Staff from Teenzone Youth Centre, based at Christ Church in Stamford, are organising the Snap festival, which will take place on the Recreation Ground in Stamford on Monday, August 27, between 10am and 10pm.
The festival is aimed at young people aged between nine and 19,
One of the main parts of the festival will be a talent competition, which will run from 12.30pm to 4.30pm, and organisers are keen to hear from young people who want to enter.
Youth programme manager at Teenzone Ali Rigby said youngsters from as far afield as Bourne, the Deepings and Rutland could enter the contest, as well as young people in Stamford.
He said: “Things are really starting to take shape now and it should be a fantastic day.
“We are currently looking for a variety of acts and bands to take part in the talent contest.”
Snap, which stands for Say No and Phone, is a drinking and drugs initiative launched by Crimestoppers, and regular Snap dances organised by Teenzone and Stamford Neighbourhood Policing Team used to be held at Central Nightclub, offering young people a fun night out with an easy and subtle way of getting information.
But Ali wanted to take it one step further, so the festival idea was born.
Teenzone and Stamford Youth Panel, which is also involved in organising the festival, have raised £13,000 through fundraising events, grant applications and donations to run it.
During the event, which is the first of its kind in Stamford, there will also be a variety of agencies with information stands, as well as cookery, dance and sports demonstrations. There will also be a DJ playing music in the evening.
