A COUPLE are celebrating a milestone wedding anniversary this week.

Joyce and Geoff Foster, of Drift Road, Stamford, notched up 60 happy years together yesterday.

The couple were married at All Saints Church, Stamford, on December 30, 1950.

The couple marked this milestone anniversary with a trip to Heacham Manor in Hunstanton, in Norfolk.

Mrs Foster said; “We are having a lovely time.”

Mr and Mrs Foster met at dance in 1947 after their eyes met across Stamford Assembly Rooms, which is now the arts centre, in St Mary’s Street.

Three years later they tied the knot in the church.

Mr Foster worked as a mechanic and Mrs Foster used to work at Kath Lloyd’s shop in Stamford.

The couple went on to have three children, Julie Chapman, of Drift Avenue, Stamford, and twins Ian, who lives in Devon, and the late Steve.

The couple have put the secret of their long marriage down to teamwork.

Mrs Foster said: “Just working together and give and take.

“I would also tell newly weds not to get in debt.

“We never got in debt and I think that helps a lot.

“A lot of young couples today have money worries.”
