A VILLAGE was brought together by a Christmas tree festival.

The Helpston Tree Festival took place in St Botolph’s Church, Maxey Road, on Saturday and Sunday.

Helpston Women’s Institute organised the event, which featured 63 trees.

Institute member Janel Pike said: “It was a great success and caused a great sense of community within the village.

“I would like to thank every one who displayed trees and everyone who supported the event.”

During the festival pupils from John Clare Primary School sang Christmas songs. Tea, coffee and cakes were on offer throughout and visitors could browse a produce stall.

Entry was free, but donations were being taken towards the Women’s Institute and the church funds.

This is the first festival of its kind in Helpston, but WI members hope it will become and annual event.
