A FOOTBALL club has donated £650 raised through a tournament to a cancer charity.

Thurlby United Football Club presented a cheque for the money to the Cancer Research UK shop in the Burghley Centre in Bourne on Saturday.

The club organised the five-a-side contest at Lawrance Park in Thurlby in June with 18 teams from the area taking part.

Club secretary Derrick Twaite said the club organises the annual tournament which raises cash for a different charity each year - with year’s funds supporting breast cancer sufferers.

Mr Twaite, 59, of Harrington Street, Bourne, said: “Everyone knows a friend or someone in their family who has suffered from this disease which is why we picked this charity.”

The tournament was won by the Lord Harrowby team from Grantham and District Premier League Division.
