An online auction has kick-started the 1st Thurlby Scout Group’s efforts to raise £10,000 for a cultural visit to France.
Items to bid for include two Swedish massages, a family entrance to Grimsthorpe Castle, a family ticket to Planet Ice Peterborough, a £30 bike service, a £35 voucher towards a handmade handbag or sewing lessons and a £50 voucher for CycleWright.co, at Waterside Garden Centre, Baston . The auction is known as the 1st Thurlby Lucky Dip.
The group’s 43 youngsters will also be sponsored runs and walks as well as a car boot sales and a number of other activities in the run up to the trip in August next year.
The scouts and cubs, aged between eight and 14, are due to visit the scout group in Ardress where they will take part in joint activities and get the opportunity to find out more about the country.
They will also get the chance to learn the culture and language of France.
Cub scout leader Steina Bishop said: “The aim is to give the team the opportunity to visit another country so we can make international links.
“It’s also so they can understand and experience another culture.”
While in Ardress, the cubs and scouts will take part in activities such as sand yachting, which they would not be able to do in the UK, and visit the Viking Museum.
Steina said the group needed to raise the full amount by June, with quite a bit of it raised earlier in order to make interim payments.
The 1st Thurlby Scout Group meets every Friday at Lawrence Park in Thurlby.
The auction is run through Facebook. To bid for items, request to join the 1st Thurlby Lucky Dip.
