THIS was a scene after the torrential downpours left everyone caught in them soaked to the skin. earlier this week.

Mercury reader Sue Churchill sent in this picture of the 18th green at Burghley Park Golf Course, in Stamford, on Tuesday.

Much of the area was battered by heavy rain during the afternoon, but the showers were localised and it seems many surrounding villages avoided the rain.

At the golf course, the showers stopped play for a seniors’ match against North Luffenham while a second match did not even start. About 80 golfers were out on the course at the time. Luckily the water had drained away by 6pm.

Member Howard Mulligan said: “I have been here for 40 years and I have rarely seen rain as heavy as that in such a short period of time.”
