Stamford will be taken over by street performers and artists for the town’s first Arts Festival.

The one day festival will take place on Saturday, June 27, to coincide with the popular Parade of Floats run by Stamford Kiwanis.

Both events will culminate on the Recreation Ground, where people will be able to join in with a range of art activities and see further performances and artists at work.

Performances will encompass music, dance, spoken word and drama whilst visual artists will be working live on site.

The performance element is being co-ordinated by Darren Rawnsley, director of INK Contemporary Theatre.

Organiser Sam Roddan, of Art Pop-Up, said: “We are absolutely thrilled that Arts Council England has recognised the cultural value that this festival will bring to Stamford.

“The grant will ensure that the diverse range of arts practices demonstrated on the day will be of the highest calibre. It will also allow us to offer all the activities to the public free of charge.”

Art Pop-Up will be inviting selected visual artists and other street performers to work and perform in designated spaces throughout the town centre and Recreation Ground from 10am till 2pm.

After the parade they will be on the Recreation Ground with activities from mime and magic to poetry, dance and music, alongside painters and sculptors.

There will also be a performance space designated for new and emerging youth talent aged between 16 and 25.

The aim is to bring some of the diverse cultural ambience of Covent Garden to Stamford for the day.

Art Pop-Up will also be commissioning two exciting, new pieces of visual art for the festival.

The event is supported by Stamford Town Council, Lincolnshire County Council’s Big Community Fund, The Welland Valley Arts Society and the Stamford
