An air ambulance was called to the A15 near Bourne yesterday (Thursday) after a pick-up truck and a tanker were involved in a collision.

Police, fire and rescue and road ambulances also attended the scene.

The A15 between Northorpe and the roundabout near the Elsea Park estate in Bourne was closed after the serious road traffic accident at about 5pm.

The road was closed off until 11.55pm causing massive traffic delays of up to an hour and a half.

The male driver of the red Ford Ranger pick up truck, who was reported as trapped in his vehicle, broke his leg and was flown by air ambulance to University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire.

Police said the 58 year-old man from the Bedford area will spend a number of weeks in hospital with his injuries but they are not considered life threatening.

No one else was injured.
