A man has been charged with dangerous driving and failing to stop after a collision at a rural level crossing.

Stephen Miller, 44, of Lawford, in Essex, will appear at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on October 11 to face the two charges, which relate to an incident at Lolham level crossing, near Helpston, on April 2.

A lorry struck the barriers at the level crossing in King Street, ripping one from its moorings and leaving it lying on the rail tracks.

Trains running through the area were delayed by four hours after the incident and the road was closed by police while new barriers were installed.
